Why Lockhart?

I can quite see this.  What concerns me, though, is that we have 
heard about this "vanity" of Dumbledore's through an article, quoting 
a costume designer, quoting JKR - so it is, at best, third hand and 
therefore not canon.

This is what concerns me about this disparity between book and 
movie:  it seems likely that we are going to end up saying that the 
movie, and related articles are going to become canon whether we like 
it or not.  This is very different from the kind of data Steve 
collects, as he only uses as canon direct quotes from JKR herself.

I am sure that I am going to enjoy the movie - I have been looking 
forward to it for months.  However, I do want the 
film/interviews/articles about the film to be viewed as canon in the 
same way as the books/comments from JKR about the books.  It is just 
too confusing for words.
