There was a thread a few days ago(!) about the 'mortal peril' position on Molly's clock. The more I think about it, the less I'm sure what it means. In COS, when was Ginny in mortal peril? In the chamber? As soon as she started writing in the diary? When Lucius put it in her things? When Lucius dreamed up his plot? From the moment she was born?
The only thing I can think of is that it means 'there is a distinct possibility of dying in the (rather undefined) near future'. It would be consistent to say that the clock can't actually predict the future, because that depends on people's choices, but it can weigh the possibilities.
It is, of course, a *magic* clock, so it would have no trouble pointing in two places at once, if, say, Arthur was in mortal peril at work.
