consistent to say that the clock can't actually predict the future, because
that depends on <people's choices, but it can weigh the possibilities.
"Mortal peril" is a status report, not a prediction. I think it has to mean
"in imminent danger of death or serious injury". If we follow the Shipping
Forecast convention (and there's no reason why we shoud) "imminent" means
"within the next six hours". So the hand should have hit "mortal peril" the
moment Ginny was snatched into the Chmaber.
