Good question. Come to think of it the fact the
various common rooms open to passwords does suggest
they are meant only for members of the House

Presumably there are other places students from
different houses can socialize; the Great Hall, the
Library, the grounds, etc. Must be if interhouse
romances can bloom.

Is it after dark or after lights out? If students
from different houses can spend enough time together
to fall in love presumably they can also form
out-house friendships. There are the double classes,
Quidditch matches, the dueling club and possibly other
extracurricular activities that we never see because
they don't interest Harry, Ron and Hermione.
As for MWPP I find it impossible to believe Peter
Pettigrew could have been a Gryffindor, and if we're
to believe Hagrid's statement that only Slytherin
Alumni turn Dark then we must assume both Peter and
Sirius were Slytherins!
