Hi all,
In a fit of normalcy, I lazed around Barnes & Noble tonight, and spotted the
new, "official", JKR biography, "Questions with JKR" or something. It's
pretty much what we've known before, so I wouldn't advise forking out $5
(US) for it -- just read it in the bookstore. It's in about size 18 type and
is very thin -- aimed, methinks, at the kid audience, or perhaps the parent
using it as bedtime reading.
Quirky things --
* Ernie and Stan from the Knight Bus are named for JKR's grandfathers
* JKR loves Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (and so do I!)
* JKR's love of weird place names comes from being born in Chipping Sodbury.
She has also lived in Wales (hence, possibly, Godric's Hollow).
* Her parents were married in Arbroath, which is the next stop on the
railway line north of Dundee in Scotland.
* The Flying Ford Anglia (no, not him, the car in the story :D) came from a
friend's old Ford Anglia and the fact that it saves Harry is a metaphor
(though not entirely purposefully, it seemed like) for the original car
saving JKR from boredom.
* Nicolson's cafe is/was owned by her brother-in-law, so she thought she'd
be welcome to write there.
I don't know whether these are on the Lexicon, but this certainly sounds
like a book Steve would be interested in! ::vbeg:: Something tells me there
are already eight annotated copies in the BCCS library :D
