Perhaps the decisions of the sorting hat are not as accurate as many
of us believe. Wouldn't it be strange that at age 11 the sorting hat
knows whether you will grow up to be evil or hard-working? Also, if
the sorting really tells us that certain students will develop
certain traits, then I get confused about some things. Black thought
Lupin was the spy, so didn't tell him the secret keeper was Peter.
If Peter was in Slytherin, then everyone would have a good idea who
the spy was if everyone else was in Gryffindor. Also, Snape hasn't a
prayer of being a good guy if he's Slytherin.
I hope the sorting isn't that accurate and formulaic. I think it is
more interesting when you just don't know how someone will turn out --
like real life.
