Hi everyone,

Okay, I'm really just reinforcing what others have said, but since there
seem to be some tempers fraying, I'm going to stick my two knuts in...

Firstly, OT Chatter, as some of you know, was created as a side group
because of the high message volume on our list, but it was always intended
to be *complementary* to the main list. A number of HP-related topics are
listed as appropriate for discussion there, but it also allows people to
post on completely OT subjects without swamping ongoing threads.

Just to reiterate on the OotP Derby thread: occasionally, people post
messages that are likely to generate a large number of brief 'list'
responses (a bit like a quiz) and these are usually moved to the OT list.
This is not intended to kill off the conversation and we are not ticking
people off for making an error if we ask for the thread to move over, it's a
simple request for people to move from one room to another. Large numbers
of you are not members of OT Chatter, and that's your choice, but you are
missing a part of the list where you can learn more about other members. If
you don't want piles of OT e-mails, please try the Digest or Webview modes,
as others have suggested, and read or write posts there only when you want
to (as in this case).

I'll also drive home what's already been said about the *voluntary* polls
that Penny put up: these are meant to explore the diversity of the list,
something that we can celebrate and learn from (or so we thought...hmmm).
If you don't want to take part, just don't. Posting blind polls to examine
list demographics is, frankly, not the same as debating related
controversial issues on the list, unless I'm missing something.

Magically,

Neil
