It seems a bit harsh to announce that a list that a lot of people
enjoy shouldn't exist. Most of the discussion that goes on there is
in fact HP related but believe me you don't want it on the main list.
Arguments about "Who's hotter, Harry or Ron?" are certainly HP
related but do you want them on the main list? I didn't think so.
Ditto "What's the sillient pairing you can think of?", polls as to
fave character, in-depth discussions as to what the exact ingredients
are in butterbeer, "I saw someone who looks just like Draco Malfoy in
the supermarket" and so on. Certainly nobody who hates that sort of
thing need join, but I wouldn't say that everything HP-related
belongs on the main list, because it doesn't.
"I can only speak for me, but I didn't join the chatter list because
I was under the impression (and pardon me if I'm wrong) that it was
mostly a discussion about fan fic, which I am not interested in at
all."
No, the HP_Fanfiction group is for fanfic discussions. I actually
never go to the OT Chatter group precisely because they never or
rarely talk about fanfiction, which is pretty much all I'm interested
in, having run out of anything to say about GoF back in January. Each
to their own, but don't think that's what OT Chat is about, because
it isn't.

NB: I think we need to keep a certain measure of restraint on our
personal feelings. I know that I've been on the list a pretty long
time, and therefore whenever I see yet another "How many students are
there at Hogwarts?" post, I want to throw my computer through the
window and cut my wrists on the shards. But it is on topic, and it is
*my* problem that I'm not interested, not the list's. So I switch to
webview and keep my mouth shut so as to not ruin other people's fun.
Perhaps this post seems pointless, but when people start snarling and
spitting at the mods and sneering at people's enjoyment of off-topic
lists, it all becomes a bit depressing.
