September 1 was when they were going to Hogwarts on the train, which
leaves King's Cross at 11 am. The moon may or may not have been up
at that time--one does frequently see the moon in the sky during the
day. Is anyone so thoroughly up on werewolf lore that you know
whether a werewolf supposedly transforms when the sun AND the moon
are up at the same time? Or is it JUST when the moon is up, with no
sun? Sometimes moonrise and moonset are during daylight hours
entirely.

The questions to ask about September 1, 1993 are:

1) When is moonrise, and is the sun still up?
2) When is moonset, and is the sun still up? (And does it matter?)
3) And, for those whose PoA books are at hand (instead of off being
read by a 7-year-old and an 8-year-old), was Lupin at the welcoming
feast that evening, or did he mysteriously disappear?
