I hear you, Luke. Should I gather from this that you and Penny won't
be joining D.A.L.I.G.? :)

There are interesting, moving deaths in a story, and then there are
deaths that are just way too much to take. Can't we allow for the
possibility that some characters can never be killed off? Like, to
use your Star Trek example, the main trio in Star Trek? If so, can
we possibly shoehorn Lupin and Sirius into that category?

I could live with the deaths of any characters, frankly, except Lupin
and Sirius. Ron, Hermione, Dumbledore. All would be tragic, but
I'd get over it. But for some reason, Lupin and Sirius would bother
me a lot more. I think the reason is that they are more peripheral
to the main story, therefore they may be at greater risk, therefore I
worry about them a more. Also, neither has really had a decent
chance to live life, so killing them off would be all the more tragic.

Perhaps the only thing we really know for sure is that Harry will
make it through to the seventh book. I guess that's one reason I
really liked GoF. Even though I "knew" Harry would survive the
graveyard scene, JKR had me plenty worried. Maybe that's just plain
old good writing and plotting.

Anyway, someone else mentioned Ginny as the special fan of Harry's
who would die. I could vote for that.

Cindy (who is willing to sacrifice a young girl to keep Lupin and
Sirius around for a few more books)
