Okay I'm the last person who would want to see Remus(especially) or
Sirius killed off, however. Let's use Star Wars as a better example
than Star Trek. In SW, the main series of books were becoming a bit
mundane, you always knew Han, Luke, and Co. were going to come out a
little battered maybe, but none of them were ever in real danger of
dying. In the X-wing series characters were introduced that were well
liked and in some cases they were killed off, however again you knew
the main *core* characters weren't going to be killed.
Then came the New Jedi Order series and all bets are off as to who
will live and who will die. A beloved main supporting character was
killed in the first book of this series. It makes the whole series a
little more exciting to read now, because I wonder who might be next.
I think this is the same for HP. If JKR keeps putting the Trio and
main supporting characters in danger but, there's no real threat that
she'll kill them. It will start to make the books a bit mundane.
We'll say to ourselves: "Oh that was exciting, but I knew in the end
everyone would be OK." However if she does kill Remus or Sirius or
Snape, or whoever of the main characters, it touches us more and the
books will be more suspenseful.
Cedric was just a taste of what may be coming in the future. The next
death is going to *hurt* a lot more, because it's someone that's
closer to the *inner circle*. I just hope it isn't Remus or Sirius,
at least not until the end.
