I agree that it would be most interesting to see Neville blossom and
take a significant part in the events to come. I have thought about
evidence from canon that this might be so:
1. He was, after all, Sorted into Gryffindor.
2. He comes of excellent stock. His parents were Aurors, and were
not killed by Death Eaters, and withstood torture to the point of
insanity.
3. He was able to stand up even to his friends. I agree with
Dumbledore that this is a special kind of courage.
All the rest seems to me just wishful thinking and speculation.
I do think you have two phenomena intertwined with Neville. The
trauma of his memory of his parents is in itself enough for him to
repress his memory and his ability, even without positing a memory
charm.
Does anybody else have any canonical evidence, any red flags,
pertaining to Neville his epiphany and any possible significant role
for him?
