Correct...so, if Neville was there, what was to stop the DE's from torturing him as well as his mother?  And, of course, because Neville's dad didn't know where Voldemort was, he couldn't be broken down.  So Neville sees his mother being tortured, possibly is tortured himself, and maybe believes that his dad could save him but doesn't.  No wonder the poor kid is messed up!
