It's not specifically mentioned in the books, but in a previous
posting by someone else on this list (sorry I can't find the darn
post now), the gap came from the assumed ages of the older boys,
and how old Percy was when Harry and Ron came to Hogwarts.  The
implication is that Charlie had already graduated from Hogwarts
by the time Percy first got there.  That means at least a seven
year gap between them.  And someone else used the number nine in
relation to these years, and I guess that's why I used it my
post.  My bad for not checking more closely...
