Insane is right. Let's see, what has Hermione done? As a first year
(age 11?) she solved a logic puzzle that would confound most adult
wizards!
As a second year she solved the mystery of what the beast of the
chamber was! This confounded the assembled faculty and MoM both 50
years ago and in book 2. (It's easy for us to guess, but we have the
benefit of JKR's POV!)
In Book 4 she didn't merely capture a beetle, she deduced Skeeter's
secret of being an unregistered Magi!!! This is something that had
been going on for over a decade (remember Rita in the Pensieve vision)
and had caused great problems for a great number of powerful wizards
from the MoM through Gringotts and a 14 year-old Muggle-borne witch
did it!
Hermione has been VITAL to success in all four books. Could you
picture Harry alone discovering the secret of the Sorceror's Stone?
Or the Chamber's monster? Or learning Accio or Stupify without her
assistance?
>From what I read about 'Mary Jane's' they are generally both one-
dimensional and too good to be believed. Hermione has SEVERAL levels
and works for everything she has.
Here's an idea. As Hogwart's is a school with open competition
between houses, how about an interhouse Wizard's Challenge bowl with
points equal to the Quiditch Cup? It would be realistic from the
scholastic aspect and would give Hermione and some of the overlooked
characters a chance to shine. (Maybe Neville, Ginny, the Creevy
brothers, etc.
BTW Who do you think will be next year's Gryffindor Quidditch Team?
