that they so quickly switched over to a complete slate of almost
ordinary names? Draco and Hermione are pretty much by theirselves.
There are names that have classical backgrounds like Marcus and
Terence, but they're still modern names
My Reply:Hermione is an unusual name however it is a name, JKR didn't create it herself. I wonder if it's more common in Europe than in the states. But my mother went to school with a girl named Hermione and that was like 30 years ago! I think it's an unusual name..but it's not weird. It's not like a name that was created by JKR..As far as the wizard world and using odd names, I mean Okay yeah they use modern names or somewhat uncommon ones like Gilderoy, Albus, Sirius. But I'm fairly certain they are all names that she found in some book somewhere.
And then if were going there there is no cannon evidence that suggest that the previous genertions names were odder than the ones you have now we have Molly, Arthur, Peter, James...I could continue but I think you get the idea..
As for the sorting hat..I think the most interesting there is a great mistery in my mind as to how certain people are sorted into what houses. For example, I mean Percy does not remind me of a Gryffindor, he's far too ambitious! And yes he could be brave but I have this hunch that the hat sorts by your most overriding characteristic and with Percy I would think that would ambition or intelligence and in which case he should be in Sytherin, am I correct? Or why is Hermione in Gryffindor, not to insult her because I adore Hermione but she seems very Ravenclawish to me. Perhaps, it gives you want you wish....but I really think that underminds the whole idea of characteristics being what sorts you. And then if we go with the parents theory then we must assume that the Pavarati and Padma's parents must have come from two different houses, Gryffindor/Ravenclaw. I think the parents thing is the best bet, especially considering a whole legacy thing and because most people seem to have siblings in their own family. As far as the hat changing it's mind, I very seriously doubt it does. The fact that the hat doesn't change it's mind is the one sole reason that I have hope for many of the characters in the story that hat knows more about you than you think. Like Peter Pettigrew assuming that he is a Gryffindor, which I am going to because well he is..lol..I have hope that his bravery will eventually stand out and he will go against Voldemort.
That goes onto my question for you all. What characters do you think may be redeemed by the end of Harry Potter, atleast to some degree. My favorite character that will turn good (or atleast somewhat good) is Draco Malfoy. I've said it before JKR put scene in the book with Lucius being so hard on Draco for one reason and one reason only she wanted us to feel sympathy for Draco. You don't put in sympathy for characters that you don't want the readers to like on some level. Thus, I think that Draco will turn good. Actually I think Draco has to turn good because I think in order to defeat Voldemort ALL of the houses are going to have work together. Bringing the talents that each one holds to the for front. And as the books go on Draco will be older and have more pull in Slytherin. And there is still a part of me that wants Draco and Ginny to hook up..actually I could see that happening. I think it's rather likely actually, more likely than Harry and Ginny
