All this talk about pets reminded me of this quote from a JKR 
interview: 

Could Harry have a pet dragon? 
You can't domesticate a dragon whatever Hagrid thinks. That's simply 
impossible. So no. He's got more sense. He might get a different pet 
at some point but I'm saying no more at this moment.

I haven't read Fantastic Beasts *squirms guiltly* so I was wondering 
if ya'll had ideas about what types of pets might be particularly 
useful to Harry?

Or--(gasp) do you think he'll need a new owl because something 
happens to Hedwig?  I imagine being Harry's owl is quite a dangerous 
job...
