Archgarchus wrtes:

< I always have found it interesting that even though Lily was a
<close friend of the Mauraders gang, Snape never ever mentions her
<when he is baiting Harry. Her absense is conspicuous. And, it gives a
<wonderful reason for why Snape protects Harry. As much as he hates
<the fact that Harry is James's son, Harry is also Lily's son as well.
<Poor Snape. Imagine his dismay when, after a decade of
<secretly "marinating" (yes, a KISSING JESSICA STEIN reference) over
<the death of Lily, he is suddenly confronted with Harry (the son he
<never, but in his mind, should have had with Lily). That
<this "mockery" of his own imagined son looks like James adds insult
<to injury.

Although I have never really explored the SHIPS alot, I do have to say that
this idea about the Lily/Snape/James triangle is very interesting.
Archgarchus, I particularly like the above paragraph that you wrote. I
finally realized what all you, ahem, "lollipoppers" out there are saying. It
does provide an explanation to why Snape hates Harry so much (hello, he's
almost a mirror image to James) yet has a sort of grudging respect that
although is not shown often, is deffinately there. Like all of you on the
good ship Lollipop, I'm very interested to see what happens when someone does
mention 'Lily Potter' in front of Snape
