I think at the present time he's not worrying about his grades (present
time as in CoS and PS/SS) because of his father, though his father does
downgrade him for not doing better in class at the beginning of CoS in
Knockturn Alley. His father is a member of the Governors up until the
end of CoS. I think after that Draco started buckling down more. I do
envision him as a prefect and a likely candidate for Head Boy with
Hermione as Head Girl.
