: When Harry and Quirrell confront each other, Quirrell binds Harry
magically,
: apparently without recourse to a wand.
: We know that Dumbledore can perform wandless magic.
: But Voldemort, *Voldemort*, the most powerful dark wizard of modern
times,
: apparently needs a wand. Why?

We also see Quirrell and Snape perform wandless magic at the Quidditch
match. I don't have SS/PS at hand, but from what I remember (or I may
be influenced by the movie) Quirrell is just staring at Harry and
Snape's also muttering. So it's probable that the curse does not need
the incantation uttered, and the countercurse does. Or it relies on
the powerfulness of the wizard, or maybe there is a way practise
wandless magic learnt after basic magical education, or some wizards
may be more talented for this kind of magic.

: Is it simply because his magical powers also dissipated when he lost
his
: body? Was he able to perform wandless magic before his downfall?
Can he
: *still* not perform wandless magic, now that he has his body back,
or was he
: too confused and shocked by the Priori Incantatem effect to remember
that he
: had an alternative to using a malfunctioning wand?

I suppose that only some kinds of spells or curses allow to be
performed wandlessly. Or they're too time consuming when used without
a wand. Or when Voldemort was caught by the effect of Priori
Incantatem, he was too concentrated on it and on sending the energy
through the wand to be able to use other kind of magic, which seems
energy-consuming or requires concentration which Voldemort couldn't
spare at the moment.

So as to Weasleys' ages. It was discussed before and as I remember
there was a kind of agreement reached that Bill is about 30 in GoF. In
SS/PS, there is mentioned that Gryffindor did not win the Quidditch
Cup since Charlie left, which was six years earlier (arrgh, I need my
book back). Assuming that Charlie was 17/18 when leaving Hogwarts,
he's 23/24 when Ron begins Hogwarts. So he's 27/28 in GoF, and Bill is
older than Charlie so he should be about 30 in GoF.
