No, of course not. But Lily probably knows, so James can know and what better
sport for two jokers like those two than having a bit of fun at the Dursleys'
expense? OTOH, you could be right, the info could have come from Arabella -
providing he can find her first.

In which case (sorry to be boring and insert canon here), he was going in the
wrong direction (or alternatively had gone too far) if he was intending to
reach Harry. Arabella lives two streets from Privet Drive, whereas Harry was
several streets away by the time he sat down in Magnolia Crescent.
We still have to explain how he knows where Arabella is, but as I've
suggested, the hair donor, who may well *not* have turned her back on the WW,
could be the source of that.

But I don't think any of what I or anyone else has said actually disproves
the theory that Arabella is Sirius' girlfriend. (You even quoted my support
for the notion.) If she is Harry's godfather's girlfriend you could almost
argue that she's the next best thing to family he has, making her protective
role all the more explicable. There has to be a really good reason why
someone would sacrifice their life in the WW in the way she has.
I'm afraid it does make Dumbledore's use of her surname in his instructions
to Sirius at the end of GoF rather redundant though (I'm sorry, these bits of
canon will keep creeping in!). But perhaps this is just for the reader's
benefit. Yes...that must be it. We can't get litle canonical nit-picks get in
the way of a good theory, now,
can we? :-)
