Athena stands on the rocky shore deep in thought. She is
contemplating new battle strategies when the swift running of a grey
wolf catches her attention. He runs close to her, but in an
unthreatening manner. He drops a piece of parchment at her feet and
quickly retreats. Athena reaches downward and picks up the
parchment and gives a small smile. Her request for an acronym has
been answered. The slip with its pawprint proudly proclaims:
H.A.G.R.I.D. W.A.N.T.S. B.R.A.S.S. D.R.A.G.O.N.S. A.S. P.E.T.S.
(Harry's All-seing Groupie Ron Is Demonstrated: Weasleys
Alphabetically Naming Their Sons Brings Ron As Seventh Son, David
(Really A Good Offspring) Never Survived Although Still
Positionating Exactly Third Son)
Athena then notices another piece of parchment blowing in the wind
towards her. She grabs it in midair and reads:
How about A.N.S.W.E.R.S. (Abandoned Naming Scheme: Weasley's
Enigmatic Ron a Seer) signed Brady
Athena considers this, but hesitates. It is a simpler acronym and
would be much easier to remember, but it doesn't mention the Seventh
Son aspect which she considers to be crucial. Then something else
catches her eye. There is a ship off the coast sailing by in the
beautiful Greek waters. The HMS LOLLIPOPS and Athena sees that the
fair Captain Tabouli is waving to catch her attention. The captain
places a parchment in a bottle and drops it in the water. The waves
quickly bring it to the rocky shore. Athena extracts the parchment
and reads the message:
Poor old Ron, eh? It's just not fair. Overshadowed by his
brothers, overshadowed by his best friends... what a:
W.A.N.T.O.N. M.O.R.A.S.S. O.F. T.O.S.H. (Weasleys Alphabetically
Named Third Omitted Nipper, Making Our Ron A Seventh Son,
Outstripping Fellows Through Oracular Secrets Harboured)
Athena considers the text of the acronym and thinks it appropriate,
but furrows her brow when she considers the words that the initials
spell out. It seems disrespectful to the Goddess. She shows the
three parchments to her familiar, the owl perched on the shoulder of
her armored breastplate. The owl hoots approvingly to the one with
the paw print on it. Athena nods and tucks that parchment inside
her tunic nearest her heart. The other parchments she hands to Nike
her companion as well as the bottle. Nike will later fill the
bottle with sacred olive oil and carefully scrape the ink from the
parchments to reuse them later.
Athena decides to forgo thinking of battle plans for the evening.
Instead she contemplates sitting at her loom and designing a new
tapestry. She is considering a new subject which would utilize many
silver threads. The noble wolf.
A howl can be heard in the air. A victory howl.
-Thank you for all your submissions,
Athena
And on a quick side note - I saw a video in my local library
entitled "The Magical World of Harry Potter:the unauthorized story
of J.K. Rowling. Director/Producer Stephen Grant by Eaton
Entertainment 2000, running time 50 minutes.
I watched it once several months ago and I must say that it was poor
quality at the time on my VCR as it had almost outlived its lifespan
being watched far too many times by library patrons. What is
important from that video is that JKR was interviewed onstage and
when asked about what characters she liked to write about the best -
she had said the following about Snape (as near as my memory has on
this) - she loved writing him because he was pure evil. She also
proclaimed that she loved writing Hagrid and felt that he would be a
good friend to have with you in real life. She mentioned going to a
bank and needing a loan, "oh and by the way, I'd like you to meet my
friend Hagrid."
This may or may not indicate that Snape is really the Evil Overlord
in training - but it certainly doesn't discount anyone's
uncertainties about his true intentions. All I'm certain about is
that Fudge Is Evil FIE!
