Interesting comments from Grey Wolf and Pippin about who would get the upper hand in a Wizards vs Muggles war. I think odds would have to be slightly in the Muggles' favour, if only from sheer weight of numbers, but evener than the Muggles would think.
After all, the Wizards may be grossly outnumbered, and short on weapons of mass destruction, but they seem to be able to heal injuries within seconds, and can teleport themselves wherever they like, and go invisible. Surely incredible advantages in battle. Not to mention being able to Obliviate and Confund their foes, both using the appropriate spells and by introducing weird mythical creatures into the battlefield which would make the Muggles think they'd gone mad, or been subjected to some kind of hologram display or 3D movie or even hallucinogenic substances.
The other thing which came to mind is the ability to tell friend from foe. From what we see in the books, Wizards can tell wizards from Muggles with no problem at all. (Can they sense the magical aura, or something?) Muggles, on the other hand, are notoriously poor at identifying wizards, as the Salem trials presumably demonstrated. Provided the wizards got their Muggle clothing right, they could quietly blend into society as spies and cause untold havoc with magic, all the more so because the majority of their enemies wouldn't actually believe in the stuff.
In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think the Wizards, if cunning enough strategists, could probably win a Muggles vs Wizards war. And what then? This is always the thing with those Evil Overlords. If they *did* take over the world, what would they do with it? What sort of regime would Voldemort maintain?
Now there's a nasty speculation. Any thoughts?
Ah yes, and I thought of a much snappier, zappier Ron as seventh son due to alphabetical naming scheme acronym... perhaps we'll see evidence of his hidden clairvoyant powers in a showdown, where his and Voldemort's...
