One reason may be that James had to die, and Lily didn't, necessarily.
Supported somewhat by Voldemort saying she didn't have to die (which I
personally think is untrue, I think he was just saying stuff he thought
might make her move). Perhaps he considers James courageous for standing up
to inevitable certain death, and Lily foolish for standing up to an
unnecessary one.
It was all I could come up with. I've had a week of Girl Scout Twilight
Camp, give me a break.
