Well, if Voldemort is such a great big egomaniac (and I agree with you
that he is), then maybe he did know about Harry's resistance, but
thought that *his* Imperius is ever so much stronger than Crouches. 
"Ha!" he said, "that boy may resist Barty's puny attempts at Imperius,
but there's no way he could possibly fight off MINE!!!"
