       Not in that part, but later...Dumbledore to Harry: "You happen to have 
 many qualities Salazar Slytherin prized in his hand-picked students. His own 
very rare gift, Parseltongue--resourcefulness--determination--a certain 
disregard for the rules,"

       So, while not a requirement, it does seem to be an important 
criterion. Hm. I could see someone who does have the gift and knows the WW's 
attitude toward it keeping quiet about it, too.
