She is only 11, having her soul attacked by a dark magic artifact of
great power. Personally I feel she must have exercised some control
as no one was killed.

Absolutely. LV's magic was strong enough to preserve an earlier self
of LV and escape all of Dumbledore's magical wards. It was a
contingency plan if he did die. Did he plan all that from age 16?

This echoes an earlier post of mine where I asserted that Ginny
was 'marked' by LV much like Harry was with his scar. She has faced
her worst fear (WITHOUT the support of 2 great friends) and is a much
stronger character for it.
She's probably matured more than Harry, who resented Cedric because
of Cho and almost missed a VITAL clue in GofF. Meanwhile Ginny went
from the giggling child with her elbow in the butter to the girl who
politely refused his invite to the Yule Ball. "I can't...I'm going
with... with Neville. He asked me when Hermione said no. I thought
I'm not going to be able to go otherwise. I'm not in 4th year."
Ginny does not cry or yell, although she's described as 'going
scarlet' and 'looking miserable'. She's gentle with Harry's feelings,
something her year older brother was completely oblivious to in his
treatment of Hermione. Ginny allowed herself to have genuine fun at
the Yule Ball. Something Ron and Harry couldn't do, pouting and
pining for Hermione & Cho.
As girls of their teens are much more mature than boys of the same
age I think Ginny would be a much better match than Cho Chang. Cho is
a full year older than Harry and I suspect she was in real love with
Cedric and might not like Harry to be around as a constant reminder
of Cedric.
