Okay *rubs hands together* just wanted to comment on a couple things.

JUDY SAID:
"It's interesting, I adore Snape and the thought of him in love with Lily
doesn't bother me at all. I figure, why is it Snape's fault if Lily had boring tastes in men, and went for bland jock James instead of brilliant, enigmatic Snape? *I* think Snape is extremely lovable, and if Lily disagreed, well, I'm obviously going to think she just doesn't know how to appreciate him."

James..a bland jock? *looks alarmed* The Head Boy? The top of his class? The prankster? The boy who spent the first part of his seven years at Hogwarts learning how to become an illegal animagi and the second part running around at night with a *werewolf*? The marauder, co-creator of the brilliant, infamous Marauder's Map? The guy everyone describes as *just like Harry*? Is Harry a
bland jock, and, if so, why are we all reading a series about a bland jock, anyway?

James has never had a special place in my heart or been one of my favorite characters, however IMHO he has certainly proven himself to be both intelligent *and* willing to cross lines, break rules, etc. etc. Two traits that, if nothing else, do not equal "bland". Semi-naughty, perhaps, but not bland. Tut, tut. Bad James.

PIPPIN SAID:

"Sirius, for all his dead sexiness, leaves me cold. Yeah, he's got plenty of charm. I can't help feeling suspicious of someone like that. I've met too many people who use their people skills, well, the way Voldemort used to use his."

^_~ I can't help but think that both this view of Sirius and the previous thoughts on James are based more on reader desires and/or fanfic than canon. Canon Sirius comes across as anything but charming to me. I mean, in PoA he's deranged and homicidal, and in GoF - there's just no delicate way to put this - he eats rats. Not that he hasn't been developing into a nice, fatherly, protective figure for Harry, but seriously, I don't think "suave" or "debonair" are appropriate adjectives for his character.

Moreover, I think it is probably unlikely that he was ever very charming at any time - because, based on canon, this charm has never surfaced in his personality. Charming people tend to rely on that charm to get them what they want. It is their first reaction to any problem, yet we never see Sirius try to utilize charm to get himself anything. Did he really want to try win the trio to his side at the Shack? Nope, he was all "break the leg, scare the kids, kill the rat, make excuses later."

^_~ As a side note, I don't seem to remember Sirius as being described as "dead sexy" (or anything of that nature) in canon. ^_^ Not that I'm saying that he *isn't*, necessarily -I mean, in all fairness, we can't really expect Harry to notice these things and we *are* limited to his POV - but I do believe it to be important that we differentiate between what-is-canon and what-we-want. Of course, on this, I am a major hypocrite, I'm sure...*sigh*.

Anyway, I just don't know about Snape. Believe me, I am *all* about going for the bad-but-well-don't-you-just-WANT-him??!!-guy (I.e. the vampire complex). However, Snape just doesn't seem to fit into this category as far as I'm concerned. *grins sheepishly* Perhaps it's just because he's old and his hair is oily. I guess I kind of like my bad-boys to be all pretty and virile. ^_~ Shallow of me, eh? *blushes*. Oh, gosh.

P.S. I am *really* having trouble with the spacing/font size/paragraph placement, etc. in my outlook program. So sorry if this post is unintelligible, plain messy, or the like. :(
