I don't think Black would suspect Lupin based on Lupin's Edge,
either. I do think, though, that as Black and the other Marauders
were Lupin's very close friends, while Harry Potter is simply a boy
who has known Lupin as a good teacher, Black will have seen *more*
than just the Edge that we see through Harry's interaction with
Lupin. What I think is that Lupin's Edge is more Lupin's Tip o' the
Iceberg, and that it hints not at potential, but at actuality.

So no, Black wouldn't have suspected Lupin simply because Lupin had
an Edge. Black would have suspected Lupin because as Lupin's close
friend, he would have seen Lupin acting on that edge ~ saying/doing
things that weren't entirely innocent. Things that, during dark days
and with a spy on the loose, could easily be construed as the
words/actions of one who could be seduced to the Dark Side, so to
speak.

Incidentally, I personally view Lupin as a good guy who probably
won't crack (I say 'probably' because anything is possible). Doesn't
mean I find no fault in the character; and I actually like the
character better for having a potential to be a greatly flawed being.
