True enough, but I also think that Black was at the time a deeply 
shaken man who at that point was capable of believing anything about 
nearly anyone. All the pointers in the text to the horrible paranoia 
of wartime....really, just about *anyone* could Crack given the right 
pressures, and Black is more aware of this than anyone. Maybe he had 
crazy moments of suspecting everyone he knew--I'd be willing to 
believe that.

Absolutely agreed. But what if the line between 'good guy' and 'bad 
guy' or at least "gray guy" in the Potterverse isn't a line at all 
but a continuum: a simple measure of how much pressure someone can 
take before Cracking?
