I suspect that after having no friends at all for the first eleven
years of his life, suddenly having *two* seems like an awful lot. 
Almost greedy to go looking for more, really.  Plus, I'd say Harry
considers Hagrid to be a friend -- even after Hagrid gets the teaching
job, Harry still seems to see him as a pall who made good rather than
a teacher; he certainly doesn't see him as an authority figure.
