I assume this has probably already been discussed -- with two years
in between books, has anything NOT been discussed? -- but I'm in a
Women's Lit class and the other day my teacher mentioned A
Winter's Tale, which of course has a character named Hermione --
the lead female role, actually. AWT, according to my teacher, is
Othello with a happy ending, and I've often heard that
Hermione is one of Shakespeare's better female characters (as opposed
to, say, the tragic figures of Desdemona and Ophelia). But AWT has a
love triangle, which is quite possibly what we are facing in HP, and
I was wondering if anyone knew of an instance when someone had asked
JKR about the significance of Hermione's name? We've seen the
significance she likes to give names, and that seems to be a logical
origin for Hermione's. Perhaps someone who's read AWT could give us
some details?
