Yeah, the whole "vampires can't tolerate daylight" business was 
started by the movie "Nosferatu."  It's not part of traditional 
vampire lore, or early vampire literature.  Stoker's Dracula was 
somewhat weaker in daylight, but could still function perfectly well.
