Marauders learning animagi; Lupin's animal form?

Since I haven't seen anyone make this correction yet, I thought I would.

POA, Ch. 18: "And they didn't desert me at all....They became Animagi."
"My dad too?" said Harry, astounded.
"Yes, indeed," said Lupin. "It took them the best part of three years
to work out how to do it....Finally in our fifth year, they managed
it. They could each turn into a different animal at will."

5-3=2 They clearly started in their 2nd year, at least to do the
research, and though I have no evidence, I doubt very much they told
any adult what they were up to. Though it's very possible that they
obtained the books, not from Hogwarts library, but from someone's
family's private collection. And maybe broke into the library, too.


I've been wanting to bring this up for a bit now, and it seems as good
a time as any:

It seems from Rowling's answers and the nature of Animagi as they are
presented, one's transformation is in fact a. out of one's direct
control/choice; and b. in some part based upon the inward nature of
the individual attempting to transform.

Given these two suppositions, what type of animal do you all think
Lupin might have become had he tried the transformation himself?

In other words, I'm really asking two questions:

1. Does the fact that Remus is a werewolf adversely effect or somehow
change his nature sufficiently to render Animagus transformation moot
(i.e., he'll become a wolf)?;

2. To what extent does the wolf dictate his true animal form? Is it
possible that he could in fact transform at will into some other
animal, and if so, which animal? What would it reveal about his character?
