Does it strike anyone else that there is a lot of floral
imagery with the girls' names? We start out with Petunia
and Lily (who were surely cursed from the outset, having
been given names like that). Then Pansy, Narcissa,
Lavender, and Myrtle show up. None of these characters
are likeable, except Lily and maybe Lavender. Kind of
interesting, ne?

BTW, for fun, I looked up what each of these flowers
traditionally represents. Only Pansy's doesn't fit in
some way with her character, either by being ironic or
entirely apropos.

Lavender - Constancy
Lily - Purity and humility (also associated with Christ)
Myrtle - Love, mirth, and joy
Narcissus - Egotism
Pansy - Thoughtful recollection
Petunia - Anger and resentment

You could even go a little farther and connect Aunt
Marge to Marjoram ("comfort and consolation" - LOL).

I got all these interpretations from a flower retail
site, so I'm not sure exactly how accurate they are...
then again, "anger and resentment" doesn't sell
flowers, so I imagine it's pretty trustworthy.
