> I think that Voldemort probably was trying to catch up with the
Potters for about a year since there IS *something* about Harry that
Voldemort knew needed to be squelched, and soon!

I agree with that statement:

Voldemort must have been after Harry alone. In PS/SS it is stated
that Lily only died because she was trying to protect Harry. Also,
in PoA, Harry hear's James' voice saying, "Lily take Harry and go,
it's him." these two points show that Voldemort was never even after
Lily and James, but that he was after Harry.

Going back to the Magic Eyes theory from a while ago, Harry must be a
wizard with some sort of elevated powers, significant enough that he
was a real threat to Voldemort. Voldemort wanted to eliminate Harry
while he was a baby, and posed no apparent threat. Voldy must have
known that once with Dumbledore, Harry would be able to practice, and
pose an even more significant threat to the dark side.

Now that Harry will be turning 15, and with Voldemort's return, it is
possible that Dumbledore will reveal why Voldemort was after Harry in
the first place, and start to train him for the inevitable battle
that will probably take place at the end of year 7. It has been made
clear through the first four books that Harry is really the only
wizard that can stand up to and possibly defeat Voldemort. Although
Voldemort fears Dumbledore, that might just be a leftover emotion
from his Hogwarts years, when Dubledore was the only professor not to
trust him despite his Percy-like record. Voldemort fears Dumbledor's
knowledge and wisdom, but not so much his powers.

Whatever Voldemort's view of Dumbledore is, it is clear that he keeps
underestimating Harry's powers, which will probably lend a factor in
his downfall.
