I agree with you, Cindy, but then again, I have virtually no 
criticisms of JKR.  Here are two chapter endings that stand out for me 
right away: 

In CoS when Harry wakes up and Ron is outside the window.

In GoF when Harry's name comes out of the goblet of fire.  I must say 
I was shocked even though I shouldn't have been.  When I read a book 
for the first time I am always just along for the ride.  I remember 
actually gasping out loud when I read that.
