We know that he had a knife with him: the one he used to slash the Fat 
Lady's portrait and Ron's bed-drapes (or whatever you call them), so i 
always assumed he was going to get Peter to transform back into human 
and slit his throat.

I'd imagine that he can buy one himself. After all, he did buy the 
broom for Harry in PoA, and Newander does not strike me as particularly 
prickly when choosing his customers (remember his phrase "Horrible, but 
great things nonetheless"? He was actually proud of selling his wand to 
an assassin, so he wouldn't mind giving another wand to another 
potentially great wizard).
