You're crazy. :P

Seriously, I don't see it happening. The school-year pattern is there 
because that's how JKR designed the series. 1 book for each of 
Harry's 7 years at Hogwarts. And the series is called "Harry Potter" 
not just because he's the hero of the story, but also because the 
story is told from his perspective. With the exception of the first 
chapter of PS, we see & hear only what Harry does.

And as for it being "darker", remember. Voldemort has risen again. 
According to Trelawney's 2nd prophesy, he should be stronger & "more 
terrible" than he was before. We needn't venture back in time to his 
original reign of terror for a "dark" book, when his new reign of 
terror is apparently going to be even worse.
