Well, I finally went back in PoA and found where the Dementor was performing
the Dementor's kiss on Harry. Which explains why I was confused--all that time
travel business. Here we go: Can someone explain (or attempt to!) why he was
doing so? Or speculate?
Second question, how did Harry get away from the dementor to get back to
Hogwarts to wake up in the Hospital wing to go back in time to save himself and
the others? Anyone able to understand this whole time travel thing? Or
attempt to clear up my muddled mind?
Thanks for any further speculations, I'm stumped.

Very interesting site. One thing I found particularly interesting is
that the Padfoot was originally viewed as an evil spirit, but is now
considered to be protective and benevolent. Just like Sirius, who was
originally believed to be a vicious murderer but is now known (by the
central characters and the readers, anyway) to be a good guy.
