Is Voldemort the only Dark Lord?

Does anyone know if Voldemort has any hold over people in other countries?
Example: If an American wizard came into the books (as highly unlikely as
that is) would (s)he have any knowledge of Voldemort? They say he's the
greatest Dark wizard in a century (or something of that nature), but does
that mean just in Europe? There really isn't much mention of America in HP
(the only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Salem witches at
the World Cup). If the theoretical American wizard (which will now be
referred to as TAW) came and heard about Voldemort, isn't there the
possibility that TAW could say "Oh, I've never heard of Voldemort." We may
think it's highly unlikely, but I just thought of that as I was reading GoF
(for like the billionth time.....). I think it's possible that there are
other Dark wizards at work in other parts of the world that have as much
power as Voldemort. Couldn't TAW say, "We don't have Voldemort, but we
have *insert name here*"?
Okay, that's just my theory. Any other ideas?
