But he was off the deep end when he was 16, and releasing Slytherin's
monster to attack Muggle-born students - and when he killed Myrtle.
He was probably off the deep end when he was 11 or 12 and started
researching Slytherin's dark history and the Chamber of Secrets. He
was certainly off the deep end when he killed his father and
grandparents when he was 16 or 17 (if not younger).
While it's possible for a sociopath to committ murder and then lead
an outwardly normal life, it's certainly not going to be an inwardly
normal life, and it wouldn't take much, IMHO, to then set him off
again.
I wouldn't completely toss aside the idea that he has a biological
child or 2, but I can't imagine that he was ever a "father" to a
child.
