So much for lurking.

The wealthy man you cite here was one of my clues. Besides, who has to
relent? With the apparent size of the Riddle estate, it would not be
difficult to retain counsel to break any existing will. This is what
lawyers/barristers are for. There have been several notorious cases
of this type in the US in the past few years. I am certain that most
list members, no matter what their nationality, can come up with at
least one case.

disappeared after leaving school, sank into the dark arts, travelled
far and wide, and had changed so much that no one recognised him. It
would also mean that "someone" would have had to have been looking
after his affairs. As an example, someone was paying Frank Bryce to
stay on as gardener ... would that be something that Voldemort would
do? Look after a broken down old man when he is surely bent on world
domination and destruction? Now add the fact that Voldemort had been
terrorising the WW for 11 years (1970-1981). This would mean that
Lily was 10 when Voldie first emerged. Surely he wouldn't have
been "rejoicing" when Lily got her letter... he would have been out
encouraging his death eaters.

How interesting. This passage was the one that convinced me that LV
disappeared into the Muggle world, traveled far and wide, studied the
dark arts and hired a firm (Arthur Anderson?) to manage his affairs,
including paying Frank Bryce. Do you imagine that Prince Charles sits
down once or twice a month to write checks to his staff? I don't
think so. The man doesn't even carry money. Tony Soprano interacts
with his wife and children between jobs for the Mob. As has been
pointed out by others, a sociopath doesn't have to be a *good* father.

bloods, orphans, raised by muggles" If Lily was Voldies daughter then
she wouldnt be muggle born.

In the Chamber, LV refers to Harry's Muggle mother. If Riddle, born
half Muggle and raised by Muggles, posed as a Muggle and married a
Muggle, then there you are--Lily and Petunia think that they are
Muggles.

Oh well, this matter may not be resolved until book 7. Until JKR
proves me wrong, I will defend my theory. All this just reinforces
the ongoing discussion on this list about the differences in
interpretation and perception.

Punkie

Petunia is a squib!
