Oh it goes beyond that. . . I mean certainly Draco would be bored
without Harry but would the reverse be true? Harry has to deal with
Voldemort and Snape and other numerous enemies yet to be named. With
that noted, it's interesting exactly how often Harry does think about
Draco. . . in COS especially. He makes an offhand comment during the
summer about how he'd even like to see Draco's face again, just to
remember that Hogwarts was real. And that Draco is the last person in
the world Harry wanted to see him covered with soot and with broken
glasses.
Also Draco is really functioning as Harry's foil for most of the books,
representing the old fashioned Victorian stereotype of 'Old boy' and
'New boy' found in books like Tom Browns Schooldays. JKR's use of Draco
thus far seems mostly as a type, to bounce Harry against and show us
how very different Harry is. But the scene with Draco in the woods with
the Triumverate proved to me that there's more going on in Draco's
pretty little blonde head other than thoughts of getting at Potter.
That scene alone makes the rest of Draco's antics look rather foolish.
It'll be interesting to see how She resolves his character.
