I believe that in COS, JKR had Riddle mention that they look alike not to
show that they might be related, but that Harry's future could be the same
as Riddle's. It seems JKR sets up many things similarly between Harry and
Riddle, but while Riddle chose the evil track, Harry continues to choose the
good track, creating the interesting dichotomy between them. It constantly
creates conflict for Harry to know he's so close to Riddle in many ways, but
he also knows that what Riddle did/does is wrong, and he can't be like him.
I agree though that a blood relationship between Riddle and Harry would be
absolutely fascinating, but I don't think that particular scene in COS is
necessarily showing it. Riddle and Harry are both kind of described to look
like almost any 13 year old boy out there (with the exception of Harry's
scar). To me, it makes more sense to interpret that scene less literally
and more figuratively - that Harry has all the potential to turn out just
like Riddle, but continues to avoid that path. (although how cool would
that be, if they turned out to be related after all? :) )
