>>I think at times like this it's useful to pull out Freud's famous
maxim (one he
never seemed to abide by): "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar"
especially when
dealing with scholarly critique.>>

And I find this maxim entirely true when applied to the sexuality in
the HP books thus far. Really, and people were commenting on how
obvious the graveyard scene was on their *first* reading. Just
boggles my mind...

HF:
>>One of the most gratifying experiences of my life was watching my
best friend,
who was a boy I'd known since kindergarten, finally realize that
girls could be
more than either just friends or just annoying (or both.) And I can't
wait
until Ron and Harry undergo that experience with Hermione (please let
it be
soon!)>>

I think Ron especially is going to get a major slap in the face on
the whole girl thing. And it will be just hilarious to watch. Well,
after the whole Yule Ball thing, the boys have realized that Hermione
is a girl; but I don't know if they're going to keep that fact in
mind or just dismiss it like Hermione did her new hair style.

HF:
>>Suffice it to say, I don't think the Whore/Virgin thing is wholly
applicable to
Potterverse, and definitely isn't applicable to Harry, because your
typical
human doesn't think that way, boy *or* girl. It's a terribly medieval
dichotomy, and I honestly don't think the books approach women in
that way.>>

No, I don't think the words virgin or whore will be popping up in
Harry's vocabulary any time soon. But I can see the possibility for
a much more tone downed version of the theory. Harry's views on the
girls and women around him are obiviously going to change since he's
probably fixing to get a whopping dose of puberty. So how will he
start to view the girls around him? Will he continue to see the
individual, or will his hormones take him down another road?
(Personally, I find the latter as being highly unlikely for Harry,
but I can see the possibility.)

HF:
>>I didn't find
Percy & Penelope necking in the Charms classroom very chaste, either;
on the
contrary, I think Perce has a bit of nerve for risking the wrath of
his
teachers/teasing of his classmates or brothers for the promise of a
little
hanky-panky on the sly. It's always the quiet ones...>>

Following that line of thinking, it should then be interesting to see
what quiet and shy Ginny gets herself into in the next few books...
Can we expect a heated relationship between herself and Neville? =P
