<<So I was pretty shocked when I read a post(s)
awhile back describing exactly why the graveyard scene was so sexual,
pointing out ever word and insinuation that could be taken in such a
manner, and going on about how obvious it all was.>>
I think at times like this it's useful to pull out Freud's famous maxim (one he never seemed to abide by): "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" especially when dealing with scholarly critique. Fanfiction is another matter <g>
Aldrea:
<<And it's also humorous to see Harry and Ron finally look at her and
go "Hey...waitaminute, you're...you're a *girl*!!">>
One of the most gratifying experiences of my life was watching my best friend, who was a boy I'd known since kindergarten, finally realize that girls could be more than either just friends or just annoying (or both.) And I can't wait until Ron and Harry undergo that experience with Hermione (please let it be soon!)
Aldrea:
<<More like re-explained. And now it does make some sense. I think Kel
was trying to ask if anyone thought Harry would continue to view
girls as individuals, or if he would, as he went through puberty,
start divding them into "Whores" and "Virgins"(Well, that's what I
got out of the posts...but I could be entirely wrong).>>
I don't think that's it... but then, this thread has become so confusing <g> Suffice it to say, I don't think the Whore/Virgin thing is wholly applicable to Potterverse, and definitely isn't applicable to Harry, because your typical human doesn't think that way, boy *or* girl. It's a terribly medieval dichotomy, and I honestly don't think the books approach women in that way.
Aldrea:
<<Yes, now-a-days, getting caught kissing results in quite loud shouts
of "OOoooh!" Or "PDA! PDA!". And I didn't find Percy and Penelope's
situation as chaste, really, what with Percy being the shy, rule
abiding type and all.>>
Unless a teacher happens to be observing <g> At least, that's what I remember from when I was in high school (oh, these many years ago...) I didn't find Percy & Penelope necking in the Charms classroom very chaste, either; on the contrary, I think Perce has a bit of nerve for risking the wrath of his teachers/teasing of his classmates or brothers for the promise of a little hanky-panky on the sly. It's always the quiet ones...
You go, Perce! ;-9
