Those were my thoughts when i first read JKR's response as well.

Well, I really don't have a strong conviction on one particular
room, but it could be any number of them. However, my favourite
possibilities are:
1) The Gryffindor Common Room: it makes sense that Rowling
would want to go here, given the role it plays in the series. Plus if
it has always been the Gryffindor Common Room , it would
make sense that some significant part of the Gryffindor heritage
would be contained nearby. This works particularly well with the
Heir of Gryffindor theory, as Harry could in his possible role as
heir discover some of Gryffindor's power.
2) The Owlery. The Owlery plays much less of a role than the
Common Room, and thus is only ever really "mentioned", while
the GCR is actually discussed, featured, etc. I can just see JKR
hiding a powerful magical secret in a place that we have all
accepted as being relatively mundane and unimportant
compared to other places.>>

I've been racking my brains since the original post about the room trying to
think of somewhere and just had a thought (ooh err..;o)) could it be the
Prefects Bathroom?
I've been tending to think more about rooms that we, and Harry, were first
introduced to in book 4. Because if it was a room we'd known about all along
why specifically mention book 4?

But then, this is JKR we're talking about... ;o)
