die. I also consider the repeated references to his being the only
wizard Voldemort fears as being foreshadowing. I also think that he
has to die in order for Harry to come into himself and his powers.

Hmmm...

McGonagall said in the first book that Dumbledore could take
Voldemort anytime he wished, except that he's too ethical (may not be
her exact words, but you get the gist). Dumbledore may seem to be
less 'present' in the last 2 books...but we have yet to see him
shine.

I can see where he may die - although that's becoming a cliche
lately - but less powerful? I beg to differ. If there were an 8th
book it might tell the story from Dumbledore's point of view. Why
he felt Harry should get the invisibility cloak at such a young age -
how he was manipulated into the room with the Mirror of Erised..etc.
We'd see the background of how he helped Harry grow up and choose
wisely...right up to the end.

Unfortunately, I think the horrible death to write will be Hagrid's.
He's the real role model for Harry. Our young wizard never stood up
for himself or anyone else until after that night in the cabin when
he watched Hagrid push at Uncle Vernon with his umbrella because
Dursley was fool enough to say something against Albus Dumbledore.
Later when Draco practically spit at Ron, Harry - who hadn't met
Dumbledore at this time - stood up for himself and his new
friend...making the right and good choice as he started his new life.
