I'm confused. Lupin is going to transform anyway, whether he's 
taken his potion or not. *He's* not in danger once he becomes a 
werewolf, unless transformed Sirius attacks him.

However, either Lupin believed that Sirius might be dangerous, 
or he didn't. If  Lupin thought Sirius was safe, then there was no 
danger, and no bravery was required. (You don't need to be 
brave to face Peter Pettigrew, just very, very careful.) 

If Lupin did think that Sirius might  be dangerous, was it really 
brave to confront him alone? He could have summoned the 
other teachers, or Dumbledore himself. Was Lupin also risking 
Harry, Ron and Hermione's lives, just so he could keep on 
covering up his past?  That's gutsy. But I wouldn't call it brave.

Real bravery in the Potterverse means risking yourself  for 
someone else's sake. Have we ever seen Lupin do that?
